If you wanted some more detail on the story of Abraham as discussed by Kierkegaard in Fear and Trembling, here’s a version by comedian Louis CK (yes, with swearing):
This presentation shows the challenge Kierkegaard or any other Judeo-Christian apologist faces in defending a belief system that would make this story a central, celebrated piece of its faith.
Despite the terrible quality of this youtube clip (did someone videotape the TV with a camcorder), the show it’s from, his cable TV sit-com “Louie,” is well constructed and entertaining; I’ve been gorging on its first season via Netflix streaming this past week. The shtick is pessimism, where even when our financial and material situation is fine, circumstances and our own characteristics and the human situation in general all conspire to make us miserable, well meaning though we may be.
