This is a call to all my PEL peeps (ATX representing)

Dear PEL adherents--

I'd like to put together a philosophy discussion group here in Austin.  Thinking monthly, maybe related to our episode content, maybe not, but definitely face-to-face.  Casual, social with some fun as well as philosophy involved.

Question:  anyone out there either in the area and interested or know someone who is?  It would only take about 5 of us to get it going.  Let me know by responding to this thread and I'll mirror it on FB as well.  If you are on FB and haven't joined our group, please do so as I'll probably be using that to set up events and communicate if this gains any traction.

P.S.  If you aren't in Austin now but will be coming by for any reason, let me know when and I'll do my best to meet you and say "hi!".

    Seth,

This sounds great! I’ve been in Austin for about a year (and at Southwestern before that). I’ll spread the word and see if I can find anyone else who’d be interested. Keep me posted.

    Seth,

I would love to join in. I know a few people who might also be interested. Would there be any specific requirements for joining the group?

Hey Seth: Maybe it’s not your department but I’m wondering what you can tell me about live music in Austin. My wife and I are going to be there for New Year’s eve and for the week leading up to it. I like Americana most of all but any kind of music will do as long as it’s good. It would be nice to meet you and maybe see a band together but I wonder if you might have an insider’s view of what’s happening in your town that week. They say it’s the live music capitol of the world. Okay, I’ll go there even if it is in Texas. 🙂 If you’d rather use e-mail, I’m at dmbuchanan@hotmail.com

    Seth,

I think this sounds like a lot of fun! I just recently moved back to the area after graduating from the UW with a philosophy degree and am always looking for a fantastic excuse to leave the apt. and socialize.

    Jon, Matthew & Ryan–
Seems we have a quorum for at least coffee or a beer. If you are in, friend me on FB and we can coordinate.
    Great!

That’s a possibility, just wanted to reach out and see if anyone wanted to meet, grab coffee or a beer first. I’ve met Jon – want to get together?

Cool Cool. Hell yeah, never met a podcaster in person before. I’d be like all anxious like -oh man it’s Seth.
My attempt at humor. My schedule is tiring, crappy, unpredictable at this moment. I labor away my days for a small pittance.
        Btw, just saw this –>

It’d be swell to meet at some point (and I’ll I suppose post here a heads-up?)or something.
And again, a discussion group does intrigue me.

Hey guys, I’d be interested in doing some sort of discussion group this spring. Any excuse to do some group reading sounds great to me. Keep me posted.

OK, I see Jon, Jay, Ryan and Matthew are in. Communicating via this blog post isn’t optimal and not all of you are on Facebook, so shoot me an email directly: bonesbiscuit at gmail dot com. <-figure it out... We'll plan something for the spring but in the meantime I'll try and meet up with everyone. Happy holidays! --seth

About The Partially Examined Life

The Partially Examined Life is a philosophy podcast by some guys who were at one point set on doing philosophy for a living but then thought better of it. Each episode, we pick a text and chat about it with some balance between insight and flippancy. You don’t have to know any philosophy, or even to have read the text we’re talking about to (mostly) follow and (hopefully) enjoy the discussion

Become a PEL Citizen!

As a PEL Citizen, you’ll have access to a private social community of philosophers, thinkers, and other partial examiners where you can join or initiate discussion groups dedicated to particular readings, participate in lively forums, arrange online meet-ups for impromptu seminars, and more. PEL Citizens also have free access to podcast transcripts, guided readings, episode guides, PEL music, and other citizen-exclusive material. Click here to join.
