We've done two Nietzsche episodes (here and here), yet neither of them has been on Thus Spoke Zarathustra, which is arguably Nietzsche's most famous work, and certainly one of his most fun to read.
Well, Robert Harrison's Entitled Opinions podcast out of Stanford has filled that gap, with a great, long interview with Andrew Mitchell from Emory University. Listen to it here or via iTunes U.
You'll hear several sections read and discussed, covering the Übermensch, eternal recurrence, mind/body unity, the "last man," why pity is bad, and a snake down a dude's throat. Very clearly expressed, and very conversational, fading eventually into a mass of Pink Floyd's "Shine On, You Crazy Diamond." Nice.
Here also is a review of the same episode by Anne is a Man!
yeah this host is like an SNL caricature of a 60’s UCal prof who never got over hearing the Doors but his guest for this show was quite good and the show on Moby Dick is really exceptional.
The edition that is pictured i find to be a crap translation. The edition with “the orator” on the front (looks like a convict in a red jumpsuit) is a better translation. Although this doesnt even make sense as they are both penguin classics????
