My liveliest discussion yet with Frithjof Bergmann:
Again, this will hopefully be old news to those that sat through our PEL podcast with Frithjof and the follow-up Q&A, but we were told that the guy at bloggingheads who was editing our first two videos there still wasn't sure what New Work actually was, and we felt we had to emphasize the "calling" aspect that makes New Work actually appealing, whereas maybe talking about how everyone will spend part of their time farming and manufacturing themselves might sound positively undesirable even if it's a simple, realistic matter, which it's just not at this point. Much as Bergmann's project have accomplished, I think that Community Production is very much a work in progress and at this point am mostly just hoping that something of the sort can be made feasible. We next intend to interview some of the folks involved in work on the ground in Detroit and elsewhere. Stay tuned... though probably not to Bloggingheads, as they're pretty skeptical that there's any more juice in this topic, and their format is a bit more adversarial than our discussions have been turning out, so while there's still hope I can talk them into offering us a show, they've mostly indicated otherwise.
Consequently, I just created a New Work YouTube channel, with a freshly recorded 10-min introduction to New Work, but nothing else up there yet. You can still go subscribe though!
