Hey everyone, Nathan Hanks here with the latest from Not School for listeners and members this September. Anyone can listen to this new highlight from Philosophical Fiction #15 on "The Last Question" by Isaac Asimov. And Members, we have a bunch of new group proposals to join, several confirmed groups to check out, and plenty of time to propose your own this September.
You can also catch the Augustine Aftershow Sunday 9/6 at 3pm Eastern time! The aftershow will be hosted by Danny Lobell and Wes Alwan, who will be joined by guest academic James Wetzel from Villanova University. You can watch it happening live on YouTube or become a PEL Citizen and join its Not School group to appear on it yourself.
Here are some new Group Proposals:
- Anatheism: Returning to God After God by Richard Kearney
- The Irony of American History by Reinhold Niebuhr
- Spinoza's Ethics, Parts I and II
- Critique of Pure Reason by Immanuel Kant
- The Philosophical Canon (for ambitious folks)
- Irony (with suggested readings)
Here's our Confirmed Groups:
- The Doors of Perception by Aldous Huxley on Sept. 13th
- Frankenstein by Mary Shelley on Sept. 20th
- “Identity and Hegemony” by Ernesto Laclau, TBD in September
You can also start your own group by watching Michael Sandel's Harvard Series on Justice, or getting a poetry collection, or playing a "Metal Gear" game to discuss War, History, and Existence—just some food for thought. Use this thread to brainstorm group ideas if you're not ready to actually propose something.
