Intro Readings in Philosophy Series Starting Now(ish)!!!!

March 2, 2016 by Brian Wilson Leave a Comment

deadpoolYou're fired up, you are ready. To read some philosophy, and OHYEAH!, talk about it.

Well, you're ready for the Intro Readings in Philosophy Not School Group.

Led by Brian Wilson (me, a St. John's College Graduate Institute alum who's been doing this same gig for veterans and active duty since 2013 through my Combat & Classics program), you'll dig into a monthly reading and discuss via Google Hangouts. Meaning in the comfort of your own home (NO PANTS = NO PROBLEM!) you'll dig into the foundational works of philosophy with folks just like you!

Our scheduled discussions for March through June include:

  1. March 20, 2016 @ 5pm EST (already scheduled/promoted)
    • Author: Plato
    • Reading: "Crito"
    • Get the book.
  2. April 10th, 2016, 5pm EST
    • Author: Aristotle
    • Reading: Nicomachean Ethics, Books I–III (as discussed in PEL ep. 5)
    • Get the book.
  3. May 15th, 2016, 5pm EST
    • Descartes
    • Meditations Concerning First Philosophy, Preface–Meditation III (as covered in PEL ep. 2, with the God argument covered in ep. 43)
    • Get the book.
  4. June 5, 2016 @ 5pm EST
    • Michel de Montaigne (as introduced in PEL. ep. 33)
    • "Of Cannibals"
    • "Of the Education of Children"
    • Get the book.
    • For more info, check out The Montaigne Project

To register, become a PEL Citizen (meaning pay $5/month that you're doing this; $5 being a crazily low rate to pay for this kind of personal interaction & instruction, and of course it also includes the full-length, ad-free versions of the entire PEL back catalog) and follow the links above and you'll have all the info you need to get wicked smaht.*

Intro Readings drinking game suggestions also welcome!

Questions?  Reach out via the forum links above or email brian@partiallyexaminedlife.com.

About The Partially Examined Life

The Partially Examined Life is a philosophy podcast by some guys who were at one point set on doing philosophy for a living but then thought better of it. Each episode, we pick a text and chat about it with some balance between insight and flippancy. You don’t have to know any philosophy, or even to have read the text we’re talking about to (mostly) follow and (hopefully) enjoy the discussion

Become a PEL Citizen!

As a PEL Citizen, you’ll have access to a private social community of philosophers, thinkers, and other partial examiners where you can join or initiate discussion groups dedicated to particular readings, participate in lively forums, arrange online meet-ups for impromptu seminars, and more. PEL Citizens also have free access to podcast transcripts, guided readings, episode guides, PEL music, and other citizen-exclusive material. Click here to join.
