Dear Lise, Jeff and Brian,
Thank you that was a fantastic podcast with aspects of The Republic I was not aware off. I would like to make a couple of starting points.
1. Plato and Glaucon ‘Decend’ into the Bay area or waterfront. So this tells us Plato is looking into the deep dark underbelly of the City. Wharfs and waterfronts are notorious for underworld activity- including immigrants.
2. I don’t know where I read this but Cephalus is an arms trader (speak about the underbelly of mankind). This makes him of questionable morality and to add to it, as you stated- who is your friend?…or not. Especially when Cephalus would have profited from the recent war- what side was he on again?…. seems he is on the winners side now.
3. Please do more on The Republic- there are another 9 books to go.
Thanks
Peter
