PEL 10th Anniversary “Brave New World” Song

Podcast: Play in new window | Download (Duration: 2:43 — 5.3MB)

I wrote a tune to potentially play at the live show. This did not happen. I thought it probably wouldn't happen for the recording either, but on Saturday morning after doing my editing pass on the episode, I overcame my various blockages to emit some guitar, bass, vocals, more vocals, drums, and more guitar, and here's the result: A novelty song born as I was prepping for a Ramones NEM episode that didn't quite happen, focused less on the book Brave New World than on how weird it is that this group of dudes who I'm seldom in the same room with has become my main band and is far more famous than any of my actual bands.

I've posted the lyrics and some more info about the song on my music blog Patreon page. It's a public page, not restricted to supporters, but of course if you want me to get off my ass and record any more, I'd highly appreciate if you signed up there to become a supporter on a per-song basis.

"Just four white men, why four white men? 'Cause that's just how it happened back before 2010. And we’ve read a lot of texts. We’re still sticking out our necks, speaking off the cuff at length enough to have almost examined this..."

Nice humble homage with endearing self-chacharacterizations that bring a smile to this long-time listener.

About The Partially Examined Life

The Partially Examined Life is a philosophy podcast by some guys who were at one point set on doing philosophy for a living but then thought better of it. Each episode, we pick a text and chat about it with some balance between insight and flippancy. You don’t have to know any philosophy, or even to have read the text we’re talking about to (mostly) follow and (hopefully) enjoy the discussion

Become a PEL Citizen!

As a PEL Citizen, you’ll have access to a private social community of philosophers, thinkers, and other partial examiners where you can join or initiate discussion groups dedicated to particular readings, participate in lively forums, arrange online meet-ups for impromptu seminars, and more. PEL Citizens also have free access to podcast transcripts, guided readings, episode guides, PEL music, and other citizen-exclusive material. Click here to join.
