The Partially Examined Life (Citizens): (Protected Content)

[Why are there two audio players? The second one channels audio to the Citizen feed. The first one is listenable by all. The audio is the same.]
I bet you’d like to have an excuse to read some Aristotle, and Locke, Rousseau, Simone Weil, and other fun texts. Well, go read about this opportunity at partiallyexaminedlife.com/class, and then follow the link to enroll.
I will update that page if and when I open the third (fourth?) section, or if something fills up; this audio will become pretty quickly out of date.
Wondering what one of these classes is like? Wonder no further, here’s a sample:
As will be immediately obvious, this is wholly unedited, from my vacant stare for a few seconds as I set up the session, to the awkwardness and weird camera angles that come with any Zoom session with more than a couple of people.
Also, this was of course our first class, and before I started the recording, we went around and introduced ourselves, so this whole recording is a bit shorter than they usually come out to be. We make such recordings (video and audio) for every session, so if you can’t make it that day, you can still participate in this way. I start off (as I do here) giving a recap of the reading (in this case the through-line through Plato’s Apology, Crito, and Phaedo), and from then on, it’s discussion time. If you’re shy about this, or didn’t read as much as you’d like, you can just hang back, or just watch the recording so I can’t call on you at all, but I am confident that however much reading you did, as the discussion gets rolling, you will have some reactions, and I your very smart classmates and I will be happy to engage with you about those.
I’m posting this with the full permission of those who appeared in it. By joining the class, you are not volunteering to be on public display; the videos are (apart from this instance) just used to allow people who couldn’t be there that day to check it out, and (possibly) for future wanna-be participants to purchase when I’m no longer giving the course. The plan is never to display your likeness on public YouTube, and we can discuss any other privacy concerns you may have.
Whether or not you can manage to join the new class, we hope you appreciate vicariously participating in this one.
