Hello Hello! It’s the beginning of the new month already. This is Hillary, continuing leader for the Not School Intro Philosophy Readings group.
For those of you who have been following the Tao Te Ching discussion, hold on to your hats, because we’re drifting a one eighty and dropping into Wittgenstein’s Tractatus. For those of you who haven’t, you missed something completely different, as we had a slightly fuzzier and more feel-good philosophical discussion than usual, trying to bend our minds to follow the patterns of another culture. Seriously, there was barely any sarcasm. It was eerie. On the upside, the necessity of casting aside a lot of “shoulds” and “everybody says” gives you the potential to better analyze texts/processes with which you are already familiar.
Now we are heading back into the West and the hard lines and strict rules that beg to be both challenged and examined. Logic, especially as it applies to the structure of language is a huge deal in the age of keywords and search indexes, so lets check out how one of the greats lays it down. As always, newbies are welcome to our Intro group; head on over and sign in for email alerts. Whether you want to hop in for your very own dose of Socratic remorse, or wallflower it out and learn by osmosis, it’s bound to be a rockin’ good time. Hope to see you soon.
We’ll be reading this free version. You can listen to the PEL episodes on the text here and here.
